We were very blessed to be invited to lead a study tour of Jordan and Israel for Dr. Clifford and Monica Hill. 44 men and women from all over the UK joined us. In the Islamic Kingdom of Jordan Syd baptized 5 of our group in the Jordan River, at the place of the baptism of Jesus!
Other highlights included a visit to Bethlehem Bible College
like the Christmas carol, "and in the dark street shineth the everlasting light..."this college is training young Palestinian Christians for the ministry while reaching out to those around them.
Later that week, descending the steps of the Upper Room down to David's tomb, Liz had a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus and her favorite verse, Acts 2:17 with a group of young Israeli lady soldiers. She was blessed to realize 2000 years before, Peter quoted the prophet Joel on that same spot, now she was speaking to the very daughters they saw! She then publicly prayed for them to know God's love in their hearts and for His words to be in their mouths! We were warmly received! Please keep them all in your prayers.
We traveled back to the U.K. to conduct an evangelism seminar at MoggerhangerPark. Syd then returned to the U.S. to minister in N. Carolina.
UK & N. Carolina
He spoke at Prayer Breakfasts, preached at LivingWatersChurch, Mooresville, shared at GraceCovenantChurch in Cornelius on "Islam, Opposition or Opportunity" and shared at an Arabic Congregation in Charlotte.
Liz joined a powerful team of women from the Foursquare Church USA to share at Pastor's wives Retreats.
Pakistan
Our first retreat was in a village about an hour from Lahore, 60 Pastor's wives and leaders attended. Also women and children came from the village. It was the first women's event Foursquare Pakistan had ever put on. We had a wonderful Retreat assisted by Aster Bhatti. Some of the village ladies received Christ and many of the Pastor's wives were filled with the Holy Spirit. While in Pakistan the country came under emergency rule and continues to be in turmoil. Emergency declared in Pakistan Staff and wire reports ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Gen. Pervez Musharraf suspended Pakistan's constitution and deployed troops in the capital on Saturday, declaring that rising Islamic extremism had forced him to take emergency measures that included replacing the nation's chief judge and blacking out the independent media that refused to support him.
Because of the emergency we decided to leave Pakistan earlier than planned. On our exit over the border, India newspaper reporters were eager to hear our opinion of the emergency. Our photo appeared on the front page of the New Delhi edition of the Hindustan Times as well as in other editions of the paper throughout India!
India
We traveled on to the center of Sikhism, Amritsar, Punjab, India, 5 to 7 November for the first ever women's retreat.. There were 35 Pastor's wives from Punjab. Our host, Pastor John reports, It was an eye opening experience to most of our Sisters living in rural villages who came together leaving behind household responsibilities with their husbands. It was their joyful experience to join other sisters and worship the Lord. All of them returned with a definite desire to spend more time with the Lord in Prayer and worship and support their husbands in serving the Lord. The generosity of Foursquare women in the U.S. and our financial supporters, made it possible to give all the ladies at the Retreats, a new outfit (including shoes), new Bibles, and tools for sharing the Gospel including a Gospel cube each. Special gifts also included jewelry, and anointing oil and other gifts purchased from the Holy Land.
Bangladesh We then traveled by train to Delhi where we got a plane to Calcutta and then went by land to Bangladesh for an excellent Retreat with over 120 Pastor's wives and ladies in leadership, most fairly new Hindu converts! One 19 year old girl, only saved for 4 years already had planted 2 churches! Many were baptized in Holy Spirit and some were physically healed!
We were blessed to have Foursquare Friends, Wayne and Sarah DeCosta and their children join us. Sarah says, I had a wonderful time with you. It was an adventure to be in Bangladesh for the first time; it was an answer to prayer to be at the Mondal's home; it was a huge blessing to see firsthand some of the things God is birthing among His people in Bangladesh; and it was blessing over-the-top to get to know each one of you and walk through a few short days together. I really appreciated the diversity within your team - representative of Christ's body. I just loved to be able to observe how God used each one of you in your own giftings and personalities to touch many key heart issues. The Lord sent you here; I thank Him for that. I want to personally thank you, too, for your obedience to come....for obedience through all the preparation and then actually walking through the good works He'd prepared for you. You blessed all of us there.
3 days after we finally left that country (our exit was complicated by a transport strike that changed our plans) Bangladesh suffered a devastating cyclone where over three thousand five hundred are dead and five million are now homeless. The cyclone passed over the area where we were ministering, the wind was strong, trees were knocked over, but everyone was safe where we had been staying.
Thank you to our Global Prayer Team for lifting us up in prayer.
As you all know by now, we were in these countries at critical moments. We believe, as usual, we were there for a greater purpose. More than ever we are aware that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results (James 5:16). We really believe the Lord had us in these lands for the reason of spiritual warfare on the behalf of these people. I am sure that those who have been praying for us felt connected personally to the people of Pakistan during the emergency and Bangladesh during the cyclone and were praying for their safety. God answered your prayers. None of the people we ministered to lost their lives. Thank you Jesus! Please keep everyone in your prayers at this critical time. Prayer is still needed for peace in Pakistan and for all the property lost by the believers in Bangladesh.
Dearborn, Michigan
Last weekend, (Dec. 8) our team of 14 people including the Benitez family from Nicaragua joined about 200 others to carol sing to some of the 300,000 Arab Muslims living in the Dearborn area. We were warmly received by many of the families on "our street" and had opportunities to pray with several people including families from the Yemen and Lebanon! Pray for Jesus to reveal Himself to them.
This past year we have been out of the USA for 6 months! The rest of the year we have been traveling throughout the USA. We have been privileged to share in many strategic meetings and you have been sharing all of this through your prayers and giving. 2000 years ago, God broke history in half when he sent Jesus to this earth. He fulfilled prophesy and redeemed humanity. He continues His redemptive work and to keep His promises to us today! Happy Christmas!
